It’s time for another Tuesday where I try to recall what book covers look like!
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their blog to get the details and the prompts for each week.
This week’s prompt is Top 5 books with swords on the cover, and I feel ever so slightly more confident in my ability to round up books featuring this item than I did for keys or crowns (the previous two weeks’ themes). Let’s see how I do!
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
I actually googled this one last week to see if Buttercup was wearing a crown in the cover photo and was disappointed, but it means I did immediately remember that Westley is holding a sword!
Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian
You can’t do a King Arthur retelling without Excalibur, and of course our Elaine of Shalott is holding one on the cover of this book.
Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness Book 1) by Tamora Pierce
This book has had a number of covers and nearly all of them feature swords. This is the one my local library had when I first read the books as a kid, so it’s the one I’m featuring.
Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde
I remembered this book cover and basic plot, but not the title. Thankfully, googling “book where a girl gets sucked into a video game” pulled this up as the first result. I randomly picked this one up at the aforementioned library when I was in middle school and remember really enjoying it.
These Ruthless Deeds by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas
Technically this fan hides a daggar, not a sword, but I’m totally counting it because I love this book series and this means I’ll finally get all five titles for one of these items on the cover weeks!
Turns out I read a lot of books with swords on the cover when I was younger and really remembered them well! Of all the cover image topics, this one was the easiest for me so far, and has the most recently read titles. Can you think of any other books with swords on the cover that I missed?
What an interesting topic this week and you have certainly covered it well! I don’t believe I’ve read any books in the last few years with a sword on it. Thanks for sharing!
The Princess Bride is such a classic! Nice list!
Fun prompt and I love all of the covers, especially The Princess Bride. 🙂
