Okay, I love this week’s topic for Top 5 Tuesday–dramatic bookworm problems. Even though I beg to differ, my parents would say I was quite the drama queen in my teenage years. And quite the bookworm, I might add.

Without further ado, here are my Top 5 dramatic bookworm problems.

When someone talks to you (or turns on the TV) while you’re reading

I don’t need complete silence to read, but I do get annoyed if someone starts talking to me or turns on the TV in the room while I’m reading. Take your noise elsewhere and leave me to be my book, please and thank you.

When a character in your book does something stupid

The first time I can recall being viscerally upset with a character in a book is the time I threw the fifth Harry Potter book across the room and left it there for a good week or two. Now that I am no longer a teenager myself, I am a bit more understanding of the All Angst All The Time version of Harry that we get in that book, but man is he annoying.

Of course characters have to make mistakes, or else they wouldn’t be very realistic. But I get frustrated whenever they do something that’s so obviously a bad idea or means they’re missing something that they should really have gotten by now.

When you want to read, but you have to go to work (or that thing you said you’d go to)

Never do I want my books more than on a Monday morning around 8:30am, when I have to leave for work. Unless you count the weekend hours when I have to leave for a party or some other social engagement. There’s something about knowing I can’t read that always makes me crave reading even more.

Spilling things on your book

I know some book lovers might come at me for this, but I’ve spilled a thing or two on books in my lifetime. I enjoy reading with a good beverage and/or a snack, and I am a hopelessly clumsy person. Those moments after spilling something when I don’t yet know how bad the damage is are some of the most dramatic times in my bookish life.

When the film (or TV) adaptation doesn’t do the book justice

I don’t know about you, but I’m always more nervous than excited when an adaptation for a beloved book is announced. Will they do it justice, or will they ruin everything? There have been many wonderful movie adaptations of books over the years, and there have also been some terrible travesties. I’m looking at you, Princess Diaries 2. And Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

You know what, maybe just don’t do the thing where you make a sequel to a film based on a movie, but you sort of mush up several of the next books in the series to make it. Or just… do your own thing randomly, with Raven Symone and Chris Pine because of reasons? Okay, you can tell I’m still feeling a little dramatic about this one.
