Top 5 Tuesday: Reasons to Be With a Bookworm

Happy Tuesday, book friends! I’m back with another Top 5 Tuesday post! This week’s topic is “reasons to be with a bookworm.” Whether you’re looking for friends or a significant other, this week is all about selling bookworms as great people to have around.

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their blog to get the details and the prompts for each week.

We Never Run Out of Things to Talk About

Readers have a tendency to pick up random facts and bits of information from the many books we read. There’s always something new to discuss whether it’s the latest new release or a particularly interesting fact from that celebrity memoir.

We’re Easy to Shop For

I’ve yet to meet a book person who doesn’t love a good gift card to our favorite bookstore or piece of book-related merch. Gift-giving is easy enough for the bookworm in your life. Just maybe stay away from buying us actual books because we’ve probably already ready them.

Books Develop Empathy

Some studies suggest that people who read have a more developed sense of empathy. Stepping into the shoes of many a fictional character helps our imaginations flex more easily into what other people may be feeling about a situation, even if we’ve never directly expeirenced it ourselves. So, book people can be more empathetic and therefore make good shoulders to cry on when you need them.

We’re Easily Entertained

Not sure what to do with your book loving friend/partner/coworker? Drop them off at a bookstore. Stay with us or don’t–we probably won’t notice.

We’re Book Recommendation Machines

Whether you’re a big reader or just looking for a book on a particular topic, book lovers often have the best book recommendations. Even if we don’t, we can probably recommend a good website or blog that will do the recommending for you.

There you have it–my top 5 reasons why book people are great to have around! This prompt was a bit trickier than I thought it would be, but I had a lot of fun thinking of these. What’s on your list of reasons to befriend a bookworm?
