Happy Wednesday, book friends! This week has been chock full at work and in the evenings with social activities, so I feel like I’ve blinked and we’re halfway through.
I’m gearing up for a weekend trip of a super secret nature, about which I can share more once the surprise has passed. I’ll pack my books along but it’s unlikely I’ll get much reading in, aside from when the others are asleep and I’m up at 5:30am on account of who I am as a person.
But it’s not the weekend yet, and there’s plenty of reading updates to catch up on before I pack my bags.

I’m on a roll and finished another book this week! I finally got around to reading Kerry Winfrey’s Just Another Love Song, which I fully admit to putting off because I wasn’t sure I’d love it as much as I love her other books. Sure enough, I thought this one was cute and cozy but not the best fit for me personally as a reader. I enjoyed it, but it won’t go down as a lifelong favorite. My mini-review went up earlier this week:

Audiobook-wise, I’ve got about an hour left in Samantha Irby’s Wow, No Thank You. Overall, I’m really enjoying it.
I will say some of the essay formats don’t lend themselves very well to audio due to the repetitive style. So far, there are two essays that consist mainly of a lot of variations on stories & scenarious that start with the same phrase (like “Sure, sex is good, but…). While it’s a fun format, it does feel particularly repetitive to hear Irby’s attempts to say the same words with a different flavor every time.
I’ve picked up a digital review copy after a bit of a break from them, with Dee Ernst’s Lucy Checks In*. It really hooked me from the first page, and I think I’ll be finishing it pretty quickly. I love that the protagonist is in her 40s and starting over later in life, but it remains to be seen if the apparent love interest can win me over.
Up Next & On to You
By the time I finish Lucy Checks In it’ll probably be October or at least October eve, which means Witchtober begins! I’m going to read From Bad To Cursed with a friend starting on October 1st, so for once I do know what comes next, reading wise.
I’ve got a whole October witchy TBR planned out, which I’ll be releasing as part of the whole two posts I’ve pre-planned for Blogtober 2022. I have very mild intentions of kind of sort of trying to do Blogtober again, but I am traveling a lot next month so we’ll see if I manage it.
What about you, book friends? What have you been reading lately, and how is it treating you?
