I’m sorry, but how is it the last What We’re Reading Wednesday of October already? This month has been so busy, it’s flown by faster than you can say “but what about my spooky TBR?”
Reading has not been going well the last week or so, as I’ve been busy with travel and Blogtober and general life stuff. On top of that, my virtual running club is having the first race event extravaganza in many months (story for another time). So, I’ve spent most of my non-work hours walking around to get miles for my team, Marnie’s Army, representing the Halloweentown movies. My reading always tanks during these events because I am almost never sitting down.
In general I do a good job of not being hard on myself about slumps, but I am a bit sad that I’ve hardly made a dent in my spooky season reading stack. Hopefully I’ll get a few more books in before October ends.
There’s no rule I can’t read about witches in November, of course, but I had been looking forward to leaning into the spooky season vibes with my reading.
Let’s get into the updates for the week, shall we?

Well, I gave a reading at my friend’s wedding over the weekend, so… there’s that?
Didn’t finish any books last week, though my husband and I managed to get nearly caught up on Get in the Trunk, a Glass Cannon Network podcast we listen to on road trips. It’s an actual play RPG podcast for the game Delta Green, which is about the closest I will ever come to anything in the horror genre. So, weirdly, pretty fitting for spooky season.
I started a new audiobook, Nora McInerny’s Bad Vibes Only. She has the sort of casual attitude towards life’s harsh realities that can make some people uncomfortable, but which I personally resonate with because same. This is her latest book, and I’m enjoying it so far.
I’m a little over halfway through From Bad to Cursed and hope to finish up in the next few days so I can start at least one more witchy read in Witchtober.
Up Next & On to You
Given how little of October we’ve got left, I’m planning to start A Spindle Splintered next for the simple reason that it’s the shortest book in my Witchtober stack, meaning I’m most likely to get it finished under the wire.
I’ve got a good number of books in my NetGalley queue that I’ll probably be turning my attention to once Witchtober ends, so it’ll be time to locate and charge the old Kindle again.

October has been a slow month for me too! And I had spooky books picked out, but almost every single one I’ve picked up ended up not being spooky.
It seems like a lot of people are feeling slumpy this month!
I don’t know how you find the time to fit everything into your life. It seems so busy for you. I am sure next month you will make up for not reading much over the past week. x
You have such a busy life, it’s no wonder your reading isn’t as much as usual. I hope you find some time to get to these books soon
Thank you! No more travel until the holidays so hopefully things settle down a little!
I’ve not had much reading time this month either. I’ve been reading a collection of short stories instead of long books, so that has kept me going. A Spindle Splintered sounds good- enjoy xxx
Travel is a great reason to get behind on whatever, including reading. I am in the same boat, so I understand. It sounds like you are busy and enjoying yourself, AmandaKay. A Spindle Splintered is a good choice and it is a quick read. I hope you enjoy it.
