What We’re Reading Wednesday, November 2nd

Happy Wednesday, book friends! It’s a brand new month, full of potential and empty of big travel plans, aside from heading home to Cincinnati for Thanksgiving. I am eager to dig in to restful weekends at home, baking sourdough and reading books.

Not too much to say in the way of introduction this week, so let’s dig right in with those reading updates!

(Full disclosure: This post uses Bookshop.org affiliate links which support my work at no additional cost to you. Books marked with an asterisk were received as complimenary review copies).

Recent Reads

I wrapped up From Bad to Cursed last week. In all, I liked it okay but felt like it was a bit rushed and could’ve used another round of edits to fine tune some plot points and character development. I put up a mini review, which you can find here.

On audio, I finished Nora McInerny’s Bad Vibes Only. She writes about the heavy stuff, and doesn’t pull punches, so it wasn’t what I would call an uplifting read. I feel like the title should be the clue there, but this one felt a bit less funny and a bit more serious than her previous books. There’s an essay about influencers and how some of them operate kind of like MLMs with their promises that anyone can become an influencer if they just take a (paid) online course. That one really got me thinking.

Current Reads

I’m nearly through Erin Sterling’s The Kiss Curse, which I am liking much better than The Ex Hex so far. I feel like pacing is going to be an issue again given how we’re still getting going how much book is left, but I am enjoying the romance and humor a lot more this time around.

Up Next & On to You

Draco Malfoy — I mean Tom Felton — has written and narrated a memoir called Beyond the Wand, so naturally I had to use my latest audiobook credit accordingly. I seldom read male celebrity memoirs for whatever reason, but this one feels like a must.

I’m going to try to make a dent in my NetGalley stacks in honor of NetGalley November, so I’ll be heading to the Kindle for my next few reads. There’s also a concerning number of highly anticipated books I haven’t gotten to yet, like Love on the Brain and The No-Show, so I’m hoping to dig into some of those, too.

What about you, book friends? What have you been reading lately, and how is it treating you?

  1. The Kiss Curse sounds good. I read the Ex Hex, but didn’t love it enough to continue, now I think I should continue.
