Book News Corner: Issue 10

Hello and welcome back to book news corner, my friends! We have officially hit the double digits, and I continue to find this weekly column incredibly enjoyable. Turns out, I love to nerd out about book news and it’s way more fun when I get to tell people who know what I’m talking about, as opposed to my husband and our dog.

This week has plenty of interesting news, and I won’t keep you from it a moment longer. Let’s dig in!

“Lessons in Chemistry” Adaptation Coming to Apple TV+

How often do you audibly gasp about book-related news? Well, friends, when I heard the Book Riot podcast mention that Lessons in Chemistry was being adapted, I was interested. When I heard that Brie Larson would play Elizabeth Zott, I gasped.

In my opinion, the same energy that made certain comics fans furious at Larson’s portrayal of Captain Marvel is the stuff Elizabeth Zott is made of. I am very here for this casting, and cautiously interested to see this adaptation. A TV series is an interesting way to go, though it does make some sense given that Zott herself hosts a TV show.

A quick Google to confirm this news wasn’t wishful thinking on my part reveals that Apple TV+ has shared a first look at the series, which you can check out here.

Channing Tatum and Roxane Gay Co-Writing a Romance Novel

I am still processing this news and I don’t know how to feel, but it does appear to be true. Tatum mentioned that he and Roxane Gay are writing a romance novel together in an interview for Vanity Fair, and Gay later confirmed the news on Twitter.

I have a lot of questions but I think the main one is when can we buy this book?

Book of the Month Offering New 2-credit Membership Deal

Last week, Book of the Month rolled out an audiobook option for the monthly book subscription service. It is perhaps not that surprising that, soon after, they also announced a new membership tier where users can get two book credits per month rather than just one.

For $14.99 per credit (aka $30 a month), users can get two books (hardcover or audio) per month instead of the usual one for $15.99. For folks who frequently pick an add-on, I could see this being an appealing option. For folks who keep skipping the month because they have too many unread books at home (ahem, me) maybe not so much.

This is really just scratching the surface of everything going on out there in the book world, but these are the things that piqued my interest. I can’t wait to see Brie Larson as Elizabeth Zott and I will also 100% buy a rom com by Channing Tatum and Roxane Gay. Bonus points if he reprises his role from The Lost City and poses for the front cover.

Anything stick out to you in the world of book-related news this week, book friends?
