Happy Saturday, book friends! Initially, I felt like this was a pretty slow news week. Nothing really seemed to catch my interest, and I wondered whether I’d have anything to write for this week’s issue of Book News Corner.
And then, things picked up pretty quickly yesterday with a few news stories crossing my feed within a couple of hours. Was I meant to be playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends at the time? Yes. But book news stops for no 9th level Elemental Monk, it seems.
Without further ado, let’s get to the book news of the week!

Cast Announcements for Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends With Us” Adaptation
I can’t recall if we knew previously that It Ends with Us was slated for a film adaptation, but it is not remotely surprising the wildly popular book got picked up. Yesterday, bookish social media filled up with posts commenting on the cast announcement of the lead roles. Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni will star as Lily and Ryle, respectively.
I won’t be seeing this one, given my general feelings about this book’s subject matter and this mislabeling of relationship abuse as romance. However, I know plenty of Hoover fans will be eagerly anticipating seeing these characters brought to the big screen.

HarperCollins to (Finally) Enter Mediation with HC Union
HarperCollins union employees have been on strike since November 2022, and the publisher has just agreed to enter into mediation discussions with the Union. If you haven’t been following, there was a lot of no news at all with this strike for a while, with HarperCollins apparently not responding to the union’s demands (at least, not that we know of).
Hopefully, the start of mediation means an agreement will be reached soon.

Bookshop.org Celebrates 3 Year Anniversary with Giveaway

Bookshop.org, the online bookstore that supports local indies, is celebrating their 3rd birthday with a sweepstakes! I can’t believe Bookshop has already been around for three years. I’ve been doing most of my online book buying from them as opposed to the Big A, save the occasional gift card situation.
Here’s the details on their birthday celebration: If you buy a book from Bookshop.org on Saturday, January 28th (that’s today, people!) you’ll be entered to win a $300 gift card. Sounds like today is a great day to treat yourself to a new book.
Fine print for the contest: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void where prohibited. US only, age 18+. Ends 1/28/23 at 11:59PM EDT. See official rules: https://bit.ly/3CVfhLK

That’s it for this week’s book news, my friends. Any interesting stories that I missed? Let me know!
I just saw that Hoover announcement (IG?) I don’t think I knew they were adapting that book, though I am not surprised given Hoover’s popularity these days.
I hope Harper Collins is able to work with the union and give the workers what they need.

I am happy to see that Harper Collins is beginning mediation. I hope things go well for the workers.
