When I saw this challenge on Ali’s Books, I couldn’t resist taking part. The challenge was originally posted by Lace and Dagger Books.
To participate, put your Spotify Wrapped top songs playlist on shuffle and pick the top 5 songs. Then, come up with a book that the song reminds you of. You’re allowed to skip if you truly can’t think of anything, but I am not going to skip any because I think it’s more fun to really challenge yourself.
Given that I listen to some pretty interesting music, I was curious to see what I’d get from putting my list on shuffle and how I would come up with books to match. Let’s see what happens!
1. “Hold Me Tight or Don’t” by Fall Out Boy
This songs gives me big enemies to lovers and second chance romance vibes, so I’m pairing it with Beth O’Leary’s The Road Trip.
2. “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” by Panic! at the Disco
One of my favorites, this song is a celebration of overcoming challenges and achieving your dreams. I’m going with Alexi Pappas’ memoir, Bravey, for this song because it’s about her journey to becoming a professional and olympic runner and the hurdles she overcame along the way.
3. “Agatha All Along” from WandaVision
Well this is a bit of an embarassing one, but Spotify put me on blast for my habit of listening to this song on repeat. I’m pairing with The Witch Haven for reasons I won’t explain because spoilers. If you know, you know.
4. “I Don’t Belong in the Club” by Macklemore
I’m going with Josh Peck’s Happy People Are Annoying for this song which is about not really feeling like you belong somewhere, but kind of sticking around anyway.
5. “But It’s Better if You Do” by Panic! at the Disco
This is a tough one because the song and its music video are so deeply ingrained in my mind that I want a book that tells that exact story. I’m settling with Well Met for the blurring of lines between acting and reality, plus the fun costumes.
This challenge was a lot of fun! I enjoyed thinking of books that fit the vibes of these songs, and will never miss a chance to revisit my Spotify Wrapped.
I actually know some of these songs!! FOB is a fave. I was so sad about the Panic announcement.
FOB has a new album coming out, I think! I have been a huge Panic! fan for many years and received several messages from people checking in on me when it was announced that they wouldn’t be making more music.
Okay, but I love that Agatha All Along wound up on here. That’s the fun thing about this challenge. Also yay for Well Met!
Yes the shuffle makes it super fun!
I think mine would just be all The Witcher soundtrack songs to choose from, so I don’t think I’d be able to complete this tag haha.
Haha I’m honestly shocked mine wasn’t just all Panic! and the Skyrim soundtrack
This is such a fun tag! And I enjoyed your justifications for each book you chose for each song.
Thank you! It really is a fun one!
[…] was looking for a post to do today and came across this Spotify Wrapped Book Challenge on Amanda’s blog Your Book Friend. This challenge was originally posted by Lace and Dagger […]
Thanks for the shout out! I know most of your songs, but I’ve only read one of the books – Well Met, though others are on my TBR. I think you did fantastic matching up Well Met with But It’s Better If You Do. Listening to the song and seeing the video definitely fits with him dressing and acting like the pirate!
Thank you! This was such a fun challenge to do and I’m glad I saw your post so I could participate!
[…] Spotify Wrapped Book Challenge […]
I have seen this tag around a lot and enjoyed seeing the pairings. I am not familiar with any of these songs, but I am making a list of all of them and will listen to them all. Maybe I will make my own spotify list.
It is such a fun tag! I really enjoying seeing everyone’s pairings as well, even when I don’t know the songs (which is often lol).
