Hello and happy Wednesday, book friends! After a bit of chaos at the weekend, I’m happy to say we’re relatively settled back into our regular routines.
I spent most of the day yesterday celebrating the return of our power by watching a lot of Cutthroat Kitchen on Hulu, a show I’d forgotten about but recently re-discovered while browsing for Food Network content on streaming. During the power outage, reading was my only entertainment option, and a lot of it was spent straining to see by lantern light, so it felt nice to take a bit of a break.
Now, on to the reading updates for the week!

Recent Reads
I finished Monica Heisey’s Really Good, Actually, and it was, as the title suggests, really good! I loved the sort of dry, dark humor of it. With a book you’re super hyped to read, it’s always a pleasure when it actually lives up to your expectations.
Given the hectic nature of the last few days, I didn’t get around to writing a full review, which I like to do when my memory is fresh. I did do a little review post on Instagram, which you can check out here.
Current Reads
After finishing Really Good, Actually, I picked up Mike Chen’s Vampire Weekend. I’ve heard some mixed reviews on this one, with some readers not liking the “vampires, but make it mundane” take. I’m kind of here for that sort of thing, so I suspected I might enjoy it, and so far, I was right. I’m nearly finished with the book and curious to see where it goes.
I’m still working my way through Witches of America. It’s an interesting sort of outsider look at witchcraft and its origins, and while it’s fascinating, I have occasionally paused a bit at the tone. I’m still not very far in, though, so I’m reserving judgement.
Audiobook-wise, I’ve stalled a bit. I just can’t seem to settle in or decide what I want to listen to, so I’m… not. Which is okay, of course, but will definitely slow my reading pace up a bit this month.
Up Next & On to You
Remember how last week I said I was going to do a NetGalley read next, but then I didn’t do that? Yeah, I’m going to once again say I’ll be back to the NetGalley shelves when I finish Vampire Weekend. But then again, I got a copy of Weyward as my free Book of the Month birthday add on, and I’m quite tempted to read that next instead. Guess only time will tell.
What about you, book friends? What are you reading, and how is it treating you?
I have Really Good, Actually on my tbr! Thanks for sharing.
I wasn’t a fan of Vampire Weekend, but I really hope you end up liking it! Happy reading!
I chose Weyward as my BOTM pick and I usually just ignore my picks for a while but I really want to pick it up! The cover is just so stunning! I hope we both end up enjoying it!
It really is a gorgeous cover!
It’s so much fun to “celebrate” having the power back on! It must feel so good.
It really does. I’m still not over it lol
