Happy Monday, book friends! I spent Friday and Saturday at a virtual conference, which was both incredibly fulfilling and super exhausting for my introverted soul. Sunday was all about recovering and resting, including a lovely nap with Azula. I feel refreshed and (mostly) ready to tackle the week.
After a ton of anticipation due to some shipping delays, I finally got my March Authentic Books box last week, so that’s the higlight of today’s Book Mail Monday.
I’ve been a subscriber for a while now, after trying a few different book boxes. I’ve probably mentioned them here before, but I’m not sure I’ve ever gone into detail, so I figured I’d explain a bit more about why this is my subscription box of choice. Authentic Books is my favorite because it includes fun self-care items like candles, face masks, and coffee (or tea–you get to pick your preference), along with popular frontlist books. The items in the box are curated to go with the book in some way, which is a lovely touch and leads to some interesting candle scents.
One downside is that boxes ship at the end of the month, which means you’re waiting a bit longer for your new release than you do with Book of the Month or ordering the book outright. This used to bother me for certain books, until I remembered that I often don’t wind up getting to books right away even when I do receive them right after publication, so it’s really not a big deal to wait a few more weeks. I do also have quite the going collection of candles from getting a new one every month.
In March, I selected Sarah Penner’s The London Séance Society for my pick, and I am so excited to dig into this book. It’s definitely had mixed reviews, with some people loving it and others feeling disappointed, so I’m curious to see where I’ll land after loving her first book so much.
(Note: I have no formal relationship with Authentic Books aside from being a customer. I just genuinely love the boxes. That said, the links in this post are referral codes that give us both $5 off a box if you sign up).
I hope that you enjoy The London Seance Society. I didn’t think it was as good as the earlier book but it was still a good read.
I hadn’t heard of this book box before…it sounds nice to receive self care items that are usable rather than sitting on a shelf collecting dust. While a lot of the other book box items look nice and I love they’re geared toward different fandoms, I opted for book only for the two I subscribe to–I kind of figured there’s no way I could use all the book fandom items before it got too cluttered!
Yeah, that’s a good point as well! It’s great to have items that you actually use so it doesn’t quite fill up your space. Even if I never get through the candles as fast as I’d like lol.
I’ve been seeing mixed reviews for the book, too. Hope it’s a winner for you, though!!

I loved her first book, but haven’t read or listened to The London Seance Society. I hope you enjoy it, Amanda.
