Happiest of Fridays, book friends! It’s been quite the busy week for Azula, Andy, and I.
We picked up our new Chevy Bolt on Tuesday, which wound up being an hours-long ordeal due to the salesperson being stuck in traffic for 45 minutes when we arrived. That morning, I applied for an online adjunct position and was asked to record a virtual interview, something I didn’t expect to happen quite so quickly! So, quite a whirlwind of a day with a lot more talking at people and wearing “real” clothes than I’m used to these days.
Wednesday was D&D night, which meant I got to spend some more time behind the wheel of the Bolt. It also meant that I got to bed later than usual, which always impacts me far more than I want it to. I woke up tired and groggy on Thursday, per usual. Still managed to get Azula out for a few walks in the warm, sunny weather, and toss her ball for her a bit as well.
My evenings haven’t involved much reading as a result of all this driving around, but I’ve spent each morning curled up with Azula and my nonfiction read, my favorite morning routine. I’m more than halfway through Anti-Diet at this point and have learned a good deal, even if I’m a bit surprised we’re still laying the groundwork for the problems in diet culture at this point and haven’t gotten into the prescriptive intuitive eating stuff the title promises.
Last night, I made dinner while Andy was tilling ground for his garden, and I had a lightbulb moment about my audiobook slump. I’ve been listening on and off to a podcast called The Witch Wave and the host, Pam Grossman, mentioned that she had a book coming out back in 2019 (I start at the beginning with new podcasts, so I live in the past). I looked it up and, sure enough, LibroFM has it and it’s narrated by the author. Finally, something my brain will tolerate! I’m 20% in to Waking the Witch and really enjoying this blend of personal narrative and cultural examination about how we represent the idea of witches.
This weekend, I’ll be doing laundry, cleaning up around the house, and generally recharging after such a busy week. Hopefully that will include some porch swing reading time.
