Happy Saturday, book friends! Today’s edition of Book News Corner is coming out a bit later in the day because I’ve been off celebrating my wedding anniversary this morning.
It’s been a relatively slow week for book news, at least in terms of book news I’m personally paying attention to. There’s been some chatter about the new Hunger Games prequel adaptation, but I, for one, am not interested in learning more about Snow, and that’s honestly about all I’ve seen this week.
So, since today is Independent Bookstore Day here in the U.S., I thought I’d do a bit of a feature rounding up some of the ways you can celebrate and some of the places offering sales if you can’t make it out in person today.
Visit Your Local Indie
Many local bookstores are having sales, specials, and celebrations to enjoy Independent Bookstore Day with their communities. Check out your local indie’s social media or just stop by to enjoy the day.
LibroFM Audiobook Sale
No indie near you? Libro FM is a great way to grab audiobooks and support your local bookstore while doing it. I’m a subscriber myself, and while the catalog can be a bit smaller than a certain audiobook service, they still have most of the audiobooks you could ever need. And your purchase supports an independent bookstore of your choice — win win.
For Independent Bookstore Day, they’re running a sale now through April 30th. Many popular audio titles are just $5! If you’re not a member, you can also get a free audiobook by joining during the sale.
Oh, and if you visit a participating indie IRL, you can make like Charlie and search for the golden ticket to win a year’s worth of audiobooks. Does LibroFM know how many audiobooks a girl can listen to in a year? Challenge accepted.
Free Shipping at Bookshop.org
Another online shopping experience that supports independent bookstores is the wonderful Bookshop.org! (Full disclosure — I’m an affliate with them, so I do earn a small commission on purchases through my link. But I was and am a customer first).
Bookshop is offering free shipping all weekend in celebration of Independent Bookstore Day, so it’s a great time to grab some books and support your local indie even if your husband said it “wasn’t on the way” to stop by the bookstore while out celebrating your anniversary.
There we have it, a short and sweet independent bookstore edition of Book News Corner! I hope you get a chance to support a beloved local bookstore today, or some day in the near future.
Before I go, a quick shoutout to some of my personal faves — White Whale Bookstore here in Pittsburgh and the phenomenal Joseph Beth Booksellers back in my hometown of Cincinnati. If you’re ever in town(s), give them a visit. You won’t regret it.
Happy Anniversary to both of you! Thanks for sharing about these resources !
Thank you, Jodie!
