Welcome back to our cozy little corner full of book-related news! I’m not sure if I’m just not paying the right amount of attention, or if bookish news is truly slow the last few weeks.
Either way, I haven’t seen too much of interest lately to populate this column. None of those stories that jump out and make me say, “oh my gosh, I have to include that in this week’s issue!”
There’s a bit here and there, though, so let’s dive in!
There’s Going to Be a Klara and the Sun Adaptation… Directed By Taika Waititi?

Okay, I’ll confess — when I saw this headline in Book Riot News, my first thought was “Is Klara and The Sun… funny?” I haven’t read the book, but I have read Kazuo Ishiguro, and I have to say Waititi’s oddball humor style is not what I’d have matched with his work in a thousand years. From this piece in Deadline, it does sound like the deal isn’t finalized quite yet.
I am quite curious about this match and how it’ll go, and I’ve love for someone to tell me (no spoilers) whether the book has the kind of humor that makes this make sense.

Illinois Poised to Prevent Book Bans
Book bans have become conceringly common in recent years, and Illinois state legislature is set to fight back. The House has proposed a law that would penalize any public institution that bans a book, by cutting their funding.
If this passes, it could be a huge step in combatting the attempts to remove books featuring diversity of identity from schools.

That’s about it in terms of stories that caught my attention this week. What did I miss, book friends? Let me know if you saw anything interesting in the bookish headlines this week. In return, I’ll try to spend a little less time chasing quests in Skyrim and a little more time chasing bookish headlines.
I haven’t read the book ban article yet, but it sounds like it’s great news! This book banning needs to stop. As for Klara and the Sun, I haven’t read it yet, either, but if this deal happens I think it’s a good thing. There seems to be a lot of remakes and sequels to sequels being produced, and I think this would be a nice change…to have an adaptation from new source material.
Thanks for letting me know about that article on book banning. Very interesting!!
