Book Mail Monday 3/20/2023

Happy Monday, book friends! And a happy Spring Equinox to my friends in the Northern Hemisphere. It doesn’t feel too much like spring here in Pennsylvania, not yet, but there are some plants starting to emerge in our yard, so I’ll take it.

I’ve been a bit scarce on the internet this past weekend, as my mom is in town visiting for my birthday so we’ve been out and about. Naturally, this included a trip to Barnes & Noble!

Not too much in the way of new books this week, but mom did buy me a cookbook I’ve been eyeing for a while, Oh She Glows: For Dinner. Mr. Your Book Friend & I checked this one out from the library a while ago and really liked the recipes we tried, so I’m happy to add it to the collection. Having vegan cookbooks around is a must because he doesn’t eat cheese and we try to only have one at-home meal a week that includes meat, so I’m always happy for more veggie forward recipes!

I also got a book-themed Kate Spade mug from a little boutique when we went shopping in a local small town, so all in all, a perfectly bookish birthday weekend.

Hope your week is off to a good start, and that you’ve got a great week ahead!

Book Mail Monday 2/20/2023

Hello, book friends, and happiest of Mondays! We are officially moved into the new house and I have precisely one of my bookshelves set up to my liking. I can’t wait to get my office space together so I can share photos, but that is a task that had to wait for the more practical things like the kitchen and bathrooms. I’m hoping to get to it today.

It’s funny, really. I’m a person who tolerates clutter pretty well, but not when it comes to moving. I want all the boxes unpacked and everything in its place as soon as possible and spent nearly all day yesterday working towards that end. We’ve got a little ways to go yet, but the cabin is definitely starting to feel a bit more like home already. Azula is loving the windows, which are the perfect height for her to look out and keep an eye on things.

Anyway, we’re here to talk about books, not my moving habits! As I mentioned, my husband bought me a couple of books for Valentine’s Day, so I thought I’d share those recent additions to the collection for today’s book mail Monday. I don’t have a photo because I packed them somewhere “safe” for quick access and naturally have no idea where they wound up.

When Andy suggested a trip to Barnes & Noble, I knew I wanted to grab a copy of I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki . This book has caught my eye a few times but I always resisted buying it because I knew we were about to move. It’s a memoir about struggling with depression and the paradoxes of feeling hopeless but also still having desires.

I went in with the plan of getting just that book. Then my husband let me browse for too long and I stumbled across Vampire Weekend by Mike Chen, which I’ve been curious about. From what I can gather, it’s basically “vampires, but make it mundane” and I am here for it. It’s a paperback, so naturally I added it to my haul.

That’s all for book mail Monday for this week! Have you added any interesting books to your collection recently?
