What We’re Reading Wednesday, November 30th

Happy Wednesday, book friends! It’s hard to believe that it’s the last Wednesday in November, but the fact that my Christmas tree is twinkling in the corner means it must be true.

Between being back in Ohio for the holidays and the colder temperatures, I spent a lot of time curled up on the couch with my books last week. That means I’ve got plenty of updates, so let’s jump in!

Recent Reads

I finished Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow* on my parents’ couch the day after Thanksgiving. This was a “stay up past bed time to see how it ends” kind of book, and I spent about the last half hour or so in tears. So, naturally, I loved this book. It was incredibly emotional and heartbreaking at times, but it’s a rich and real story about complicated friendships and creativity. It’s also currently on Backorder at Bookshop.org, which I’m guessing is part hype and partly due to the sales the site’s been running.

Last night, I also wrapped up To Get to the Other Side* by Kelly Ohlert, which comes out next Tuesday, December 6th. It was cute, but it did feel very much like a debut in some ways. My full review will go up later this week, so stay tuned.

Current Reads

It’s holiday reading season! Last night, I started Kiss Her Once For Me, which I’m buddy reading with a friend to kick off my Christmasy reads. I’m about two pages in, so I’ve formed no real opinions on it yet, but I am excited to dive in. I know that people really liked Cochrun’s previous book, The Charm Offensive, so I’m hopeful I’m in for a real treat here.

On audio, I’m still more in a podcast mood than an audiobook one, but I am slowly making my way through What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat

Up Next & On to You

For the next few weeks, I’ll be trying to get in the holiday spirit by reading my holiday-themed TBR. It, like my Witchtober list, is probably a bit ambitious, but I do usually get a good bit of reading done during the winter break from work.

Are you reading any wintery or holiday-themed books this season, book friends?

What We’re Reading Wednesday, November 23rd

Happy Wednesday, book friends! And happy Thanksgiving-eve to my US-based friends who celebrate the holiday. I’ll be sharing the kitchen with my dad this year as we prep a feast for our family. I’m mostly in charge of sides, like the mashed potatoes, stuffing, and rolls. And of course, I’ve baked two pies to take home with us as well (both using recipes from my beloved cookbook collection).

Being home for the holiday means a little bit less reading time, but I’m still hoping to sneak some reading in. At any rate, the books will be coming with me.

This past week has been a good one for reading time. I had a few medical appointments, so I was able to take my Kindle with me to the waiting room and start making a tentative dent in my NetGalley TBR. Let’s dig in!

Recent Reads

I wrapped up Tom Felton’s memoir, Beyond the Wand, on audio, and I have to say, it will not go down as one of my favorite celebrity memoirs. He gives a stellar audiobook performance, but the text itself is… a bit meh for me unfortunately. My full review went up earlier this week if you care to know more about why it fell short for me: Mini Review: Beyond the Wand.

Current Reads

I’m still chugging along through Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow*. It’s got a bit of a melancholy vibe to it, but I’m really enjoying it so far. I can see why it’s being celebrated by so many readers, even if I anticipate I’ll be crying my way through it at some point.

Since I didn’t want to drag a 400 page hardcover to the doctor’s office, I ended up starting To Get to the Other Side* this week as well. So far, I’m really enjoying it and the somewhat silly premise of a woman who saves a chicken that’s trying to cross the road.

On audio, I started Aubrey Gordon’s What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat. You may have heard of Aubrey’s popular blog, Your Fat Friend, and she’s also one of the hosts of my recent podcast obsession, Maintenance Phase. Naturally, this felt like the logical next step in my listening life. Unfortunately, the book isn’t read by the author, which I always find a bit disappointing in a nonfiction read, but I’m still enjoying it.

Up Next & On to You

As soon as we put those turkey day leftovers in the fridge, I’m turning my sights on holiday reads. I’ve got bit plans and a holiday-themed TBR in the works, but first up is a buddy read of Kiss Her Once For Me

My last seasonal reading attempt with Witchtober didn’t go so well, but I’m really hoping I’ll get more holiday reads in with the slower pace of December after the semester ends.

That’s it for me this week, book friends! Let me know what you’re reading and how it’s treating you.
