Happy Friday, book friends!
This week, the university where I work had our spring break. Contrary to what many people seem to think, this does not mean I have the week off as staff. In fact, it’s often a busy week as everyone tries to cram in meetings while the students are away. Still, it’s been quiet on campus this week and I’ve had a few nice walks in the sunshine as we got a few warmer days.
Azula has also had a long quiet week, since Andy has had to go into the office the last couple days.
On Wednesday, we had friends over for D&D, which is always nice, even if I was utterly exhausted from a marathon of meetings and holding interviews on Zoom. Azula was pretty stoked to see her friends and have extra humans to bother for ball fetchies, as well.
On Monday, I came home to find Andy eager to watch a movie with me. This is rare because we have essentially no overlap in taste (me: Marvel, him: Taratino). After scrolling through award winning movies, we settled on Promising Young Woman, which I’d been curious to watch.
Surprisingly, we both quite enjoyed it and had a nice conversation about it afterwards. All the content warnings since it centers around sexual assault and suicide, but I like that it’s a thriller/revenge plot with a woman at its core, and overall the messaging was interesting. Plus, Alfred Molina (aka Doc Oc)!
On nights without movies or several dudes in our kitchen rolling dice, Azula and I got down to some snuggles and reading time per usual. Because of the aforementioned evening plans, I don’t feel like I’ve made much headway in my reading this week.
My current read, The Bright Side Running Club, has very short chapters, but is a hefty book. It’s really good so far, and I’m finding it more relatable than I expected. I’ve never had cancer or known anyone who has, but some of the commentary on healthcare and other people’s reactions to illness are familiar from having my chronic illness.
I’m looking forward to more reading and snuggle time with Azula this weekend, though of course there will also be a ton of wedding planning tasks to check off our lists. Azula doesn’t know this yet, but one of those tasks is meeting a potential pet sitter for the day of our wedding, since all of our friends and family will be at the event. Hopefully they hit it off!
I hope you have a great weekend, book friends!
