When I saw this challenge on Ali’s Books, I couldn’t resist taking part. The challenge was originally posted by Lace and Dagger Books.
To participate, put your Spotify Wrapped top songs playlist on shuffle and pick the top 5 songs. Then, come up with a book that the song reminds you of. You’re allowed to skip if you truly can’t think of anything, but I am not going to skip any because I think it’s more fun to really challenge yourself.
Given that I listen to some pretty interesting music, I was curious to see what I’d get from putting my list on shuffle and how I would come up with books to match. Let’s see what happens!
1. “Hold Me Tight or Don’t” by Fall Out Boy
This songs gives me big enemies to lovers and second chance romance vibes, so I’m pairing it with Beth O’Leary’s The Road Trip.
2. “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” by Panic! at the Disco
One of my favorites, this song is a celebration of overcoming challenges and achieving your dreams. I’m going with Alexi Pappas’ memoir, Bravey, for this song because it’s about her journey to becoming a professional and olympic runner and the hurdles she overcame along the way.
3. “Agatha All Along” from WandaVision
Well this is a bit of an embarassing one, but Spotify put me on blast for my habit of listening to this song on repeat. I’m pairing with The Witch Haven for reasons I won’t explain because spoilers. If you know, you know.
4. “I Don’t Belong in the Club” by Macklemore
I’m going with Josh Peck’s Happy People Are Annoying for this song which is about not really feeling like you belong somewhere, but kind of sticking around anyway.
5. “But It’s Better if You Do” by Panic! at the Disco
This is a tough one because the song and its music video are so deeply ingrained in my mind that I want a book that tells that exact story. I’m settling with Well Met for the blurring of lines between acting and reality, plus the fun costumes.
This challenge was a lot of fun! I enjoyed thinking of books that fit the vibes of these songs, and will never miss a chance to revisit my Spotify Wrapped.
