Happy Friday, book friends! We close on the house today and move in tomorrow, so it’s been one last week of packing and planning before we can finally get this over with. Azula is very disgruntled with all the changes to her environment, so I’m sure she’ll take a bit to adjust once we’re in the new place.

We had a rainy day yesterday, so she only got one walk, a big change with how many days she’s been getting three lately. I also had a migraine, so she was in full nurse Azula mode for much of the day. Dogs really do know how we’re feeling.

On Tuesday night Mr. Your Book Friend and I had our Valentine’s Day date. I got my favorite burger at Burgatory, then he reminded me there’s a Barnes & Noble around the corner. Naturally, we went there after dinner and he got me a couple of new books. All in all, a great way to spend the day.

Not much else to report from the week, as I’m sure you’re all quite ready to be done hearing me complain about packing! Soon I’ll have photos of my bookshelves in thier new space to share.

It maybe goes without saying, but I won’t be posting Book News Corner tomorrow since I’ll be busy with the move. You probably won’t hear from me again until Monday, so have a great weekend!

Hello and a happy Friday the 13th, book friends!

This week has been a bit of a whirlwind. I’ve been training people on how to do the various tasks of my job, so they can take over my responsibilities when I leave. I am watching people slowly realize just how very much work wound up on my plate in the time I was there, which has been interesting.

On top of all that, my husband and I put in an offer on a new house… and it was accepted! There has been so much paperwork and planning to do, and I am quite overwhelmed with so many big changes happening all at once! I’ll admit that even though we’ve been casually looking at houses for a while, I didn’t expect we’d find one that met both of our very different expectations quite so soon.

But we did. I don’t want to talk about it too much yet because I’m a bit superstitous about revealing too much when things aren’t yet finalized and set in stone.

Somehow, I managed to get a bit of reading done this week as well. I’m still working my way through Lauren Groff’s Matrix in the evenings and Kerri Kelly’s American Detox in the mornings.

I expect to finally finish the latter here soon. I’m not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. It’s very different from what I thought it would be, in that it isn’t really a close look at the racial issues in wellness culture specifically so much as a broader understanding of “wellness” and how white supremacy prevents any of from truly being well. It’s not that I disagree with that definition of wellness, but from how the book was described I did expect a bit more information about specific practices and aspects of wellness culture in the U.S., where they come from, and how they relate to race.

Azula is nice and snuggled up with me as I write this. There’s a small amount of snow flurries coming down, and she tried to chase and eat the falling snow when she went outside this morning, which was adorable. I can’t help but imagine how much fun she’ll have running around a much bigger yard in the near future, if all goes according to plan.

In all, I expect that things aren’t going to slow down as much as I thought they would after I finish up at work next week. Life really does have a way of keeping up pace even as we keep saying that things will settle down soon, doesn’t it?

I hope you’ve had a great week and a good weekend ahead, book friends!
